Hi again, Ward. I went to the Erhardt I reunion in Elizabeth a couple of weekends ago. I can't find your William George in our direct family BUT we have many, many Georges and a few Williams. It is possible that your William George's dad or granddad was a cousin to our Erhardt who immigrated to USA in 1854. His parents were Johann or Hans Georg Dittmar who married Elizabeth Endriss of Massbach, Germany. Johann's father was Georg Dittmar--wife Dorothea Endriss. This group were apparently farmers and bakers.
Some Dittmar cousins visited Massbach in 1986 and spoke to two brothers who were interest in geneology--Diethard (a doctor) and Friedhelm (a pharmacist) who have a genealogy of more than just our Erhardt info. We are distant cousins of these gentlemen. Anyway, the earliest know Dittmar ancestor was named Hans, b. 1620 in Rannungen. He married Elizabetha Krug from Haupertsmuhle in 1654. There is a mill there which has been in the Dittmar family for 3 centuries. Hans and Elizabetha had four sons: Michael b 2/19/1655, Balthasar b. 11/11/1657, Nikolaus (our line) b 4/1/1661, and Hans b.5/22/1663. I'd pursue those names. Since both our families are from NW Illinois (some cousins originally (1850's) settled in SW Wisconsin--near Schullsburg, WI.
To everyone--The Erhardt I homestead farm near Elizabeth, ILL will celebrate 150 years in the Dittmar name in 2004. We're planning a bash, so if you're related, send me your name, family connection, address and I'll get you on a mailing list.

This one is a tuffy. I am looking for a Ditmar (or whatever spelling) who married a woman names Alida (possibly Mueller, or some spelling thereof). They were childless but help raise a girl possibly named Nancy. They were born arround 1860 or so and moved to CA in the early 1940s. Hoping someone has an ancestor who might fit this very sketchy description. Alida's sister is my Grandmother. My Grandmother married a Taylor who was a bigomist and they had two children, a boy (possibly Charles) and Gladys Lillian. Best I know they were all from NJ/NY area. Thanks for any help anyone might give me. Have large family file to share with anyone who can help me.

We've got Dittmars here, too. Used to have three Charles', but Granpa Charlie and Grandma Gertie passed over a few years back.
We still have two, though. And Clarie, Leslie, Jean, Justin, Jessica and Ruth to name a few. (Actually, that's probably most
of us, but as I came into the name by marriage, I'm not positively sure.)

Hello Everyone!
I am having an awful time trying to research my DITTMAR line. Maybe someone can help me.
Freidrich "Peter" Dittmar b. Sept. 6, 1829 in Anspach Pruessen. Immigrated to America in 1866 with wife Katherina Elisabeth Dittmar b. April 21, 1836 and Daughter Lisette b. Oct. 21 1864 in Auspac, Reg. Bez Wiesbaden, Pruessen. I believe that they settled around Evansville, ILL until 1880 when they then moved to Marion Co. Kansas. I have not been able to find them on the ILL. census though.
They were affiliated with the Lutheran Church and possibly the Catholic Church at some time.
Peter's Father: Johan Peter Kraus Dittmar born Jan 8 1808 in Sossnowka Russland
I sure would love to hear from someone that can help me break through the brick wall I have hit with these folks!

I didn't realize so many Dittmars existed and how widely spread out we all are. My father, Robert Dittmar, is one of 13 children born to Elizabeth Catherine Bartholomae and Willliam Dittmar. My grandparents were married in NY and resided mostly in Jamaica, NY. As the family got older and married, some moved to PA, Brooklyn, and various parts of LI, NY. Great grandparents are Albert Dittmar and Barbara McLoughlin (sp?) Think you're related? Contact me, love to hear from you.

My husband Russell William Dittmar, Jr and his dad, Russell Sr are decendents of Erhardt too. Russell Sr's brother is Delmar (deceased) of Elizabeth, Ill. The Dittmar's in that neck of the woods have a family reunion every July--on the 3rd Sunday, I believe. If anyone knows the exact date and location for this year's reunion, please post it. I know the Lena, Ill cousins will know about it. We seldom get up there for the reunion, but it was fun when we did. It's generally a one day covered-dish picnic in the park. Does anyone know anything about the Kansas uncles around Clay Center? I haven't seen any postings from our fair state yet. We live only an hour from Clay Center and would be interested in getting acquiainted. Later.

I know that I've put this in the mail list before but never
where it will stay for others to read, so I'm putting it in the
guestbook today..
My family (records) started in Plymouth, Massachusetts as follows:
Elizabeth DITMER age 50 (1850)
Heinrich DITMER age 18
Friedrich DITMER age 14
Came to the states aboard the Emigrant on 5 October 1850 arriving in NYC
from Bremen. (Filbey - Germans to America Vol 1 page 300)
In 1851 Elizabeth DITMER (DEPPMER) married Lewis HELM, 2 July 1851
Name of Father: John DEPPMER Marriage: Second Age: 50
(Archives Division State of Massachusetts - M002595 Vol.55 Page246 #15)
By 1856 Elizabeth HELM deeds some property to "my son Frederick DITTMAR"
(Copy in Hand - from Registry of Deeds Plymouth, Mass. Book 419 Page
209 Recv.1840)
On 9 November 1868 Frederick DITTMAR was Naturalized at the age of 32
having been born at: Sachsen Weimar, Kingdom of Prussia. (Copy in Hand
from Boston Distric Court House records)
Thus the name change from DITMER to DITTMAR all with in a 6 year span
If anyone has any connection to the above I'd enjoy hearing
from you. Thank you. Fred

What a great page.... I am seeking information on Lois M. DITTMAR WAGNER. She was the daughter of Arlo and Ruby DITTMAR who owned Merrills Radio and Music Store at 426 Main, Canon City, Colorado in the late 1930's. Lois married a Billy Wagner upon graduating from Canon City high School (1937-1938). They lived in Victor, Colorado (Next to Cripple Creek) and Billy worked in the gold mines. They had two boys and apparently moved to California about 1942. Any information on Arlo or Lois would be appreciated

Hi,
I am trying to locate ancestors of Meta Margaretha Dittmar b.1847
in the Hanover area. She married Johann Heinrich Schwacke, had 12 children and immigrated to US in 1892 after his death in 1891. Family members think she may have been from the Scheessel area and they may have met at the Rotenberg Ball. If any of this sounds familiar I would like to exchange information with you.

I'm updating my entry from 7/15/98. I have since changed my e'mail address. I've found some additional information. My father was William George Dittmar, born 9/22/10. His mother's name was Mary Freda Frantz, born in Stuttgart and his father was William Fred Dittmar, born in Hessen. My dad had six sisters and I've lost touch with their families. I'm hoping my cousins, or someone else who may be related to me may see this.

I am Still looking for my New Jersey - Dittmars.
My mother was Louise M. (Dittmar) Boyce, born 1/30/23 in Hoboken, N. J, lived in
Hoboken and Jersey City, died 1/27/98. She lived her married life in the
Brownville/Watertown/Black River area of NY state. She was the daughter of William
Dittmar and Grace (Lawler) Dittmar. They also had three sons; William, Frederick and
George and my grandfather owned a grocery store in Hoboken, I believe, in the 1930-40s.
I do not know when the family originally came to the US. My mother was the youngest
child. Her mother, Grace, died shortly after she was born, I believe while in childbirth of
a baby who died. Her father later remarried. His second wife died from a fall from a
second story window while cleaning windows. I do not know her name. She had a son
and daughter by a previous marriage. I believe my grandfather also may have had a sister
living in Tom's River, NJ. My mother's brother William and his wife Theresa lived in
Jersey City. They had three children; Arlene (who died in childhood), William and Gail.
William had two children, Eric and Jody. Gail had three daughters. My mother’s brother
George had a daughter Georgette and a son, Georgie. Her brother Frederick died in his
twenties or possibly early thirties. My mother married my father, Leonard Francis Boyce,
also from Hoboken, in 1948 in upstate NY. I would appreciate any information anyone
may have. Thanks. ~Lois~

Thanks to the Dittmars for the opportunity to share family history information.
I believe that there are several variations of this old German clan. The Detamores began in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in the late 1700s. Our family is well documented back to our original American family: Johann Christian + Elisabeth Coaler DETAMORE and there children.
I am aware of histories of many other variant family names in America such as Dittemore, Tettemer, Tetamore, Ditterman, etc. I am interested in the German heritage of the Dittmar clan. The origin of the name, area of Germany, etc.
I would love to hear from anyone.
Thanks,
WADE

Hello to all Dittmars in the USA and Germany. My father William is from Baltimore, Md. His father Christian was born in Baltimore in 1897. His father's name was either Wilhelm Frederick or Fredierick Wilhelm - he was born in Germany. I think he was born in 1862 - though I dont know where in Germany. He left Germany at the age of about 14 to avoid being drafted into the Kaiser's Army.
I travel often to Germany and my husband and I design and direct World War II and Cold War tours. In my research I found that a distant uncle was the famed Lt. Genral Kurt Dittmar who was famous as the Wehrmacht radio propogandist in World War II. We have a photo of him and his son surrendering to the US 30th Division at Magdeburg on April 25, 1945. We know that he was born on January 5, 1891 and he died on April 20, 1959. We know he later was able to live in the west. He had alos been a military and political expert for Radio Berlin under orders of the Army High Command. His relatively candid reporting on the situation conflicted with the pure propaganda put out by Goebbels and the Ministry of Propaganda and Public Enlightenmentl. We do not know if his son is still alive.
My husband and I are often in Germany and we would like to hear from any Dittmars who suspect that they may be related or who may have any other information on Lt. General Dittmar.

My great grandfather, Oliver Dittmar, and his wife, Mary, emmigrated from Germany in the 1870s and settled in Williamsport, PA. They had four sons and one daughter. My father's father was Oliver Ferdinand Dittmar, one of Oliver's sons. My father, James Samuel, was a minister and our family has lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area for the past 45 years. Hi Dittmars and a Happy Thanksgiving. I have just come from my 90 year old uncle's house. He is a geneologist and has 9 volumes on the Dittmars. In the little time away from family today, I learned that my great great great grandfather is Justus Christoph Dittmar from Oldesleben, Germany and that we still have relatives in Eisenach. My great great grandfather was John Frederic Christian Dittmar. Also way back there were three sisters related to us - Sophia, Matilda, and Catherine Dittmar. My uncle has two paintings c. 1851 signed by Justus Dittmar. Justus came to the U.S. in 184i7. He was a stone mason and architect. Many of my relatives were woodcutters, artists, musicians and teachers. The oldest form of the name Dittmar was Dithmarschen or Ditmarsch. It comes from the German word "diot" meaning nation of people. My uncle is copying the early history he has for Germany for me and I will add to this section

Hello Dittmars,
I live in London, UK, most of the other Dittmars I'm related to live in Germany. My grandfather was Werner Dittmar of Aachen, a brother of his emigrated to the States though, in the Fifties maybe. It never occurred to me that there might be quite a few of us!
