Please be aware of the latest SCAM being sent to all the DITTMARs. It's 'Highly Confidential' from a Martins S Mowe about the estate of a Charles G. or W. DITTMAR in the amount of $12.5 million. It's being sent "to seek for your co-operation to stand in as a possible intestate heir" Stand in? Possible Heir? Come on. Just delete and don't send any "filing fees"

My great-grandfather's name is Ferdinand Dittmar (but it's not sure). My grandfather Gyula Dittmar (he had many brothers and sisters. He dead in 1952) married to Julia Somogyi (they had four children: Julia, Maria,[i know about her, she born in Mezőhegyes 1946. She married an kanadian man Michael Urpec. They have three children: Michael, Gustav and Attila] Henrik, and my father Gyula). Julia Somogyi emigrated to Kanada in 1963 with her two sisters. My father (rest in peace) married to my mother Ildikó Korponai (rest in peace too). So i'm their daughter, and i want to discover my complete family tree. I know about a few Dittmar who live in hungary: Tibor, Henrik (my uncle), Lajos, Nándor and Maria (my grandfather's brothers and sister) etc.

Joanne, My guess is that they traveled by water most of the way. From NYC north on the Hudson then at Albany west on the Erie Canal to Buffalo. From this point the took the lakes to N. Illinois. Their overland trip would then be 100 to 150 miles west from the Chicago area. Only a guess.
